Bitter Substances & Their Role in the Human Body

In the human body, bitter substances activate specific bitter receptors, which are located not only on the tongue but also in the gastrointestinal tract and other organs such as the liver & lungs. This means that bitter substances are not exclusively involved in taste perception but can also be integrated into various physiological signaling & regulatory processes.

When in contact with plants containing bitter substances, reflexes are triggered via taste nerves, which can be associated with the release of digestive juices such as saliva, gastric juice & bile, among other things. Bitter substances are therefore traditionally often considered in the context of the digestive system.

In parallel, the gut flora forms a complex ecosystem of various microorganisms, primarily bacteria, which are in a symbiotic relationship with humans. These microorganisms are involved in numerous metabolic & regulatory processes and contribute to the dynamics of physiological processes in the body.

Bitter substances & microorganisms thus represent two natural components that are often considered together in the context of nutrition & digestion.

Bitterferment – Fermented Organic Bitter Plants with Live Cultures

Our MITOcare Bitterferment is produced through the multi-stage fermentation of selected bitter plants from controlled organic cultivation. The result is a balanced interplay of bio-certified bitter herbs, including artichokes, gentian root & wormwood, and 16 different resilient, live cultures in a stable environment.

During fermentation, the microorganisms use natural sugars from rice syrup as a nutrient source – this naturally creates the fermented drink with its characteristic fermentation products.

The microbial profile includes various lacto- & bifidobacteria as well as other microorganisms such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Streptococcus thermophilus. Particularly noteworthy is the combination of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus fermentum, which is characteristic of this ferment.

The recipe is complemented by the traditional mushroom Reishi (Ling Zhi). The combination of bitter-rich plants, multi-stage fermentation & live microorganisms creates a fermented drink with a particularly distinctive, bitter-accentuated plant composition.

Organic Bitter Plants & Raw Food Quality – High-Quality Ingredients for Bitterferment

Like all products in our product line Prinzip Causa Logica, Bitterferment also follows a clear approach: synergistic formulations instead of isolated individual substances. The carefully coordinated blend of over 10 bitter-dominated plants is deliberately combined with fermentative microorganisms. This interaction creates a recipe in the spirit of the synergy & complex approach of the product line. As always, unnecessary excipients & fillers are consistently avoided.

For our Bitterferment, we use whole plant parts from controlled organic cultivation. Production is deliberately carried out without sterilization, thus preserving the natural raw food quality of the ingredients. Our products are also regularly tested in the laboratory to ensure consistently high quality and purity.

What are the benefits of bitter substances?

Bitter substances activate special Bitter receptors (TAS2R), which is not only on the tongue, but throughout the entire body gastrointestinal tract and even in other organs. Upon contact with bitter substances, reflexes are triggered via taste nerves, which...(Stimulate the release of digestive juices (e.g., saliva, gastric juice, bile) and thus support digestive function).

Benefits in everyday life – what stimulating bile and gastric juices can bring

  • Fat digestion (bile): Bitter substances can support bile flow and emulsify fats better; this could result in less bloating after fatty meals and more regular bowel movements.
  • Digestibility of "heavy" meals: Taking it before meals can harmonize gastric emptying and may make meals more digestible.
  • Appetite for “real food”: The bitter stimulus can stimulate saliva and gastric juice production and could support predigestion and protein breakdown.
  • More natural portion sizes: A bitter taste can reduce cravings for sweets and could cause the feeling of satiety to set in earlier.
  • Less bloating & pressure: A better breakdown of fat and protein can reduce fermentation processes and could subjectively mean less bloating.
  • More awake after eating: More efficient digestive processes can contribute to less fatigue after eating.

Was macht unser Bitterferment besonders?

Unser MITOcare Bitterferment verbindet drei Ebenen in einem Produkt:

2. Bitterstoffe in natürlicher Form

3. Vielfältige Darmbakterien in Rohkostqualität
16 unterschiedliche Mikroorganismenkulturen (u. a.

Was bedeutet mehrstufige Fermentation?

What is the difference between the 3 fermented drinks?

Brief comparison of the key aspects of the formulation:
  • Flora Balance:Greatest plant diversity, mild & fruity in taste, 27 bacterial strains in a stable fermentative environment
  • Dysbiosan:A strongly bitter ferment with traditional fungi; bacterial strains are not in a stable environment due to the high concentration of bitter substances.
  • Bitter fermentation:Organic bitter substance blend in raw food quality with multi-stage fermentation and stable bacterial strains.
Flora Balance Quick Overview:
  • Microorganisms:Contains 27 active strains of microorganisms existing in a stable fermentative environment. This ensures the cultures remain stable and can develop their activity within the ferment.
  • Plant substances & bitter substances:The greatest variety of plants among the 3 MITOcare fermented drinks, with predominantly mild bitter substances. The taste is fruity with a hint of mango, making the product particularly well-tolerated and delicious.
  • Traditional mushrooms:Contains the traditional Reishi mushroom (Ling Zhi)
  • Quality features:Most microorganisms thrive in a stable environment, with grape seed extract
  • Application focus:Suitable for people who want to nutritionally support their gut flora and prefer a mild, well-tolerated ferment. Its pleasant taste also makes it suitable for children.
Dysbiosan Quick Overview:
  • Microorganisms:Contains 24 active strains of microorganisms used in the fermentation process. However, the high concentration of bitter substances creates an environment in which microorganisms cannot remain stable in the long term. This is a deliberate choice, as Dysbiosan focuses not on live bacteria, but on the bitter substances and the resulting fermentation product.
  • Plant substances & bitter substances:A fermented beverage with a very bitter flavor and a plant-based bitter matrix, including ingredients such as oregano and black cumin.
  • Traditional mushrooms:High proportion of traditional mushrooms including Agaricus-Blazei-Murrill, Reishi (Ling Zhi) & Shiitake
  • Quality features:Pure formulation without additives, high bitter substance and mushroom content
  • Application focus:Especially suitable for people who want to support their gut balance nutritionally and specifically focus on bitter substances, fermented plant substances and traditional mushrooms.
Bitter ferment Quick overview:
  • Microorganisms:Contains 16 active microorganism strains, produced through multi-stage fermentation in a stable fermentative environment. The combination of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus fermentum is particularly noteworthy.
  • Plant substances & bitter substances:A bitter herbal blend made from over 10 organic herbs, including classic bitter-containing plants.
  • Traditional mushrooms:Contains Reishi (Ling Zhi) as a traditional mushroom
  • Quality features:Multi-stage fermented organic herbs in raw food quality and at a stable level
  • Application focus:Suitable for people who want to nutritionally support their digestive processes, especially in connection with plants rich in bitter substances and fermented cultures.

Which complex product from the category
"Flora, Gut & Digestion" is right for me?

Why is my gut flora so important?

A balanced gut flora is the foundation for well-being & a strong immune system. High-quality dietary fibers (prebiotics) serve as food for good gut bacteria, live microorganisms (bacterial cultures) support the restoration of a balanced microbiome, and valuable plant compounds & bitter substances act as further supplements.

In everyday life, it is often difficult to maintain a consistently balanced diet or, for example, to consume the recommended amount of dietary fiber. Our formulations are therefore designed to specifically supplement your diet – with high-quality nutrients and plant compounds that can support your gut from time to time when lifestyle & everyday life make it difficult to cover everything through diet alone.

All nine products focus on different priorities – whether it's fiber, bacterial cultures, bitter substances, or a unique combination. Here you can find out which one suits your goal:

Note: Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced diet & healthy lifestyle.

🌾 Bio Flora Stabil – the fiber base
  • Core objective:Support in reaching the recommended daily amount of fiber in everyday life
  • USP/exciting ingredients:8.3 g of prebiotic fiber (per 7.5g serving) from 14 plant compounds, supplemented with natural vitamin C from acerola
  • For whom:for everyone who wants to increase their daily fiber intake – the DGE recommends at least 30g daily, a value that is often not achieved in everyday life.
  • Tip:Alternative to apple cider vinegar before a meal to support blood sugar levels (not a “cure” but “longevity hacks”)

🌿 Flora Total – the holistic gastrointestinal complex
  • Core objective:Holistic support for the entire gastrointestinal tract
  • USP/exciting ingredients:30 nutrients & plant compounds – nucleotides as building blocks for DNA synthesis and Human Oligosaccharides (HMO), both also found in breast milk, supplemented with vitamin C, zinc, biotin & choline
  • For whom:for everyone looking for the broadest possible approach to the entire gastrointestinal tract
  • Notes:Do not consume on the same day as breast milk/HMO-containing foods

👅Bitterferment – the most intense bitter substance drink
  • Core objective:Fermentation drink with the most intense bitter substance profile in its category – bitter substances to stimulate gastric acid production
  • USP/exciting ingredients:100% organic in raw food quality, multi-stage fermented without sterilization – this preserves the 16 bacterial cultures in a stable environment, despite the intense bitter substances. Supplemented with the traditional Reishi mushroom.
  • For whom:for kombucha/fermentation fans, everyone who focuses on conscious eating with raw food quality, and everyone who wants to support their gastric acid production, digestion or liver/fat digestion with bitter substances
  • Tip:Alternative to bitter drops (also similar to kombucha)

🍄Dysbiosan – bitter substances with traditional mushrooms
  • Core objective:Bitter substance-focused fermentation drink with a focus on gut balance – milder than Bitterferment, supplemented with three traditional medicinal mushrooms
  • USP/exciting ingredients:Multi-stage fermented without sterilization, with 24 microorganism cultures – unlike Bitterferment, the bacteria here are (probably) not in a stable environment due to the bitter substances; the focus is therefore on the lively fermentation process itself and the bitter substances it contains. Supplemented with oregano, black cumin and the three traditional mushrooms Reishi, Almond Mushroom & Shiitake
  • For whom:for everyone who wants to combine bitter substances with medicinal mushrooms – also as an alternative to oregano or black cumin oil capsules, as well as for kombucha/fermentation fans

  • Core objective:Swelling fiber for short-term, functional support of intestinal activity & intestinal mucosa – not simple fasting, but a targeted cure with nutrients for the intestinal mucosa
  • USP/exciting ingredients:Soluble fiber (guar, inulin, oil palm fiber, okra powder) binds water in the gut and swells – okra powder can absorb up to 100 times its own weight in water. This swollen mass mechanically supports intestinal activity by carrying loose components in the gut. Vitamin A also contributes to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes, relevant for the continuously renewing cells of the intestinal mucosa.
  • For whom:for everyone looking for a 3–4 day cure that goes beyond pure fasting – as the intestinal mucosa is functionally supplied with nutrients, instead of just "not eating anything"
  • Note:Important: Due to the strong swelling effect, sufficient fluid should be consumed during the cure. Afterwards, building up with the other gut products is recommended

🍯 TaGa Mix – the modern sugar alternative
  • Core objective:Innovative approach with modern sugars instead of fiber or bacteria
  • USP/exciting ingredients:Tagatose & galactose (both also found in breast milk) combined with biotin, choline, magnesium & chromium
  • For whom:for everyone who focuses on clean eating, sugar alternatives or functional foods
  • Notes:Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women or those with galactosemia
