Dietary fiber – its importance, properties & daily requirements

The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends that adults consume at least 30g of fiber daily – a value that is often not achieved in everyday life.

Dietary fiber consists of fibrous components of plant-based foods and primarily serves as structural support for the plant. These complex, branched sugar molecules cannot be broken down by the human intestine, which is why they largely pass through the gastrointestinal tract unchanged and are excreted. Among the positive properties of dietary fiber is its high swelling capacity, which allows it to bind water and increase the viscosity of the chyme. This increase in stool volume can also stimulate bowel activity.

Especially in a diet with little plant diversity, it can therefore be beneficial to specifically integrate dietary fiber – supplemented by selected plants, some of which contain bitter substances – into everyday life.

MITOcare Bio Flora Stabil – Organic fiber complex for everyday use

Our MITOcare Bio Flora Stabil is a carefully formulated, vegan fiber complex with 14 nutrients and plant extracts , providing 8.3g of fiber per daily serving .

We combine particularly fiber-rich ingredients such as acacia fiber (90% fiber content), psyllium husks, psyllium seeds & oat bran with plant substances that are partly characterized by bitter substances , such as artichoke, dandelion, gentian, milk thistle, fenugreek & caraway.

The formula is complemented by ingredients with a focus on secondary plant compounds such as broccoli, aronia, and acerola. The latter provides natural vitamin C , which contributes to the normal function of the immune system¹ and normal energy metabolism² , and functionally rounds out the blend.

The hemp flour it contains also provides both fiber and a natural plant-based protein content .

Developed according to the Causa Logica principle – well-thought-out recipe & certified organic quality

Our Bio Flora Stabil follows the approach of our product line, Principle Causa Logica , which focuses not on individual ingredients, but on the targeted combination of selected nutrients and plant substances. The formula is designed so that the individual components complement each other synergistically, resulting in a holistic product.

All raw materials used come from certified organic farming and are produced according to EU organic standards. Furthermore, each batch is regularly tested for quality and purity to ensure consistently high product quality.

The ingredients are deliberately simple: no added sugar, low in sugar and salt. We also prioritize sustainability in our packaging – it is 100% recyclable.

What role does dietary fiber play in nutrition?

Dietary fiber consists of indigestible components of plant-based foods that play an important role in our daily diet. The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends a daily intake of approximately 30g. In the body, fiber absorbs water, increasing its volume and thus influencing the consistency of food during digestion. This makes it a key component of a plant-based diet and contributes to the structural diversity of our daily food intake.

What are the benefits of bitter substances?

Bitter substances activate special Bitter receptors (TAS2R), which is not only on the tongue, but throughout the entire body gastrointestinal tract and even in other organs. Upon contact with bitter substances, reflexes are triggered via taste nerves, which...(Stimulate the release of digestive juices (e.g., saliva, gastric juice, bile) and thus support digestive function).

Benefits in everyday life – what stimulating bile and gastric juices can bring

  • Fat digestion (bile): Bitter substances can support bile flow and emulsify fats better; this could result in less bloating after fatty meals and more regular bowel movements.
  • Digestibility of "heavy" meals: Taking it before meals can harmonize gastric emptying and may make meals more digestible.
  • Appetite for “real food”: The bitter stimulus can stimulate saliva and gastric juice production and could support predigestion and protein breakdown.
  • More natural portion sizes: A bitter taste can reduce cravings for sweets and could cause the feeling of satiety to set in earlier.
  • Less bloating & pressure: A better breakdown of fat and protein can reduce fermentation processes and could subjectively mean less bloating.
  • More awake after eating: More efficient digestive processes can contribute to less fatigue after eating.
