Acid-base balance begins in the metabolism

The pH value of the blood is permanently maintained within a very narrow physiological range. This is the responsibility of several endogenous buffer & regulatory systems, in particular the bicarbonate system – an automatic process.

In parallel, the so-called dietary acid load is continuously generated through nutrition, which the body processes via its own metabolic pathways. Sulfur-containing amino acids such as methionine & cysteine (e.g., from meat, fish, eggs, cheese) are oxidized to sulfate during degradation – this simultaneously produces nitrogen in the form of ammonia, which the liver converts into non-toxic urea via the body's own urea cycle. Phosphates (e.g., from animal & processed foods) additionally provide phosphoric acid. Sulfate, phosphoric acid & urea thus share the same endogenous excretion pathway: the kidneys.

The kidneys also play a role in the body's calcium balance: The increased excretion of sulfate during a protein-rich diet is accompanied by an increased excretion of calcium via the kidneys.

Arginine, ornithine & citrulline, as endogenous amino acids, are directly involved in the reaction steps of the urea cycle – a central endogenous metabolic pathway through which nitrogenous degradation products are processed.

Basen Regulat* – Complex formula for acid-base metabolism¹

Our MITOcare Basen Regulat* is a complex whose synergistic formula aims to provide exactly the building blocks involved in the process described.

The mineral base is led by zinc in the form of zinc citrate, which contributes to normal acid-base metabolism.¹ Further components include magnesium, calcium (from coral calcium) & silicon (from bamboo extract) as well as potassium & sodium bicarbonates. Bicarbonate and carbonate compounds were deliberately chosen, as they already represent a base themselves as a natural component of the body's own bicarbonate buffer system and do not first need to be metabolized. In addition, calcium & magnesium contribute to normal muscle function² and the maintenance of normal bones^3,4.

The mineral base of our Basen Regulat* complex is supplemented by L-arginine (600 mg), L-ornithine (110 mg) & L-citrulline (65 mg) – three amino acids that are closely linked to the endogenous urea cycle and are involved in its reaction steps. In addition, there is glycine (300 mg), another amino acid that exhibits both acidic and basic properties due to its chemical structure.

The biochemical interplay is rounded off by nettle leaf & parsley herb extract – two plant substances that have been valued for centuries in traditional herbalism.
